Help us make VSM even better…

Well, now the dust has settled on Vision Sound Music 2011, we’ve been able to clear up, and look at some of what worked (and what didn’t).

We believe there’s a real appetite for what we’re doing, so we’ve got some really exciting plans brewing, but the festival’s nothing without you, so we’d really appreciate you taking five minutes to fill out our survey. We’d even like to hear from you if you didn’t attend Vision Sound Music in 2011!

All the best,
Andrew Missingham, Festival Director

Audio Ad Remix Winners

On Saturday 3rd September at Vision Sound Music’s How2 day, Alan Stracey, Head of Client Services at Soundlounge announced the winners of the Audio Ad Remix Competition. Our panel, consisting of Brian Kelly from Soundlounge, Soundcloud’s Head of Music, David Adams and Eye Magazine editor, John L Walters, were impressed with the quality of entries and the diversity of the content. Our runners up were:

Roberto De Spirito  and Josh Crocker - for their separate reworks of the Sony Bravia balls ad and Katee Woods – for her cello and piano composition for the Orange Dancers

But of the 104 entries, we had to pick an eventual winner, and that winner was

Richard Keyworth, for his remix of the VW Tango Dancers. Soundlounge have already got in touch with Richard and are looking forward to working with him.

So congratulations to Richard, Roberto, Josh and Katee and thanks to everyone who entered. As this has been so popular, we’ll definitely build on it for our 2012 festival.

All the best,
Andrew Missingham, Festival Director

So today we are talking about the project at the VSM festival in London’s Southbank. It feels that it has being quite some time since we were walking in the streets of Ramalah in the middle of the night but the memories are very fresh in my mind and I believe they will be for a long while. It doesnt matter how much you read or hear about the region and its conflicts, to go over there is a unique experience and makes you understand the complexity and difficulty faced by those who wants to live in peace. I for once realize that its better to keep shut as I humbly take a step back and admit that its a far deeper situation than I expected and I feel I am far from being able to contribute with any valid input.
Having said that, I can talk about my own experience there, the one that happened inside my head. I saw that most people there are the same. Flesh, bones and a desire to get on with their lives. By far the most hospitable people I have ever encounter in my travels (I have traveled quite a bit). Thats in both sides, the Israeli and the Palestinian. Ok, we have not being in the most dangerous places such as the south (now at risk of a new war) and we did not spoke to the ones that had being involved in previous battles, but that wasn’t our goal. We leave that role to the BBC and Ross Kemp. They are the ones that put themselves as holders of the truth. Such a dangerous position. No truth can be communicated. When communicated it always have compromises within or is bias.
We want to raise a discussion. Get people that would not necessarily talk about such relevant subject to each other to have a dialogue. To be surprised by finding the guy in the other side of the border actually thinks in a similar way to you. We want to throw the question in the air, just like the guy in the picture is throwing the sweet in the air, and let it reverberate, hit the walls, makes its course.
How far it will go it depends on us and by that I mean you too. Get involved. Let us know your thoughts.

bridgetminamore:

I’ve had the best weekend.

Friday and Saturday were spent helping out at the Vision Sound Music Festival at the Southbank Centre. The talks were lovely, and I’m still feeling guilty that I got paid to be there. I also got the chance to talk with RDC Youngers Damani, Femi and Atticus which was nice - we all run in different groups so we don’t actually talk that much at RDC every week. Big ups to RDCO Linda who got us the opportunity via VSM organiser Andrew, a RDC original - again and again I keep getting reminded that the RDC Youngers project is about so much more than running.

On Friday night I also got to see the one and only Charlie Dark do his thing as part of the festival - he rescored the film Black Orpheus with a live band. It was epic. Tanya Auclair is a singer I’ve loved for ages, and the band were on point. He even put Benga in. Benga! What was even better was the fact half of RDC came out to support. Seeing everyone in denim instead of lycra and heels instead of trainers was very strange. Was also pretty alarmed at the shocking example the Olders set for us at the Giles Peterson after party - they stayed out late! They drank alcohol! They bought us drinks! And all in the mist of half marathon training. Terrible.

However the night did serve to remind me of all the lovely people I’ve met during this running journey - I’ve now got a whole heap of new friends who I am very happy to know. The seeds have also been sown for an end-of-running-season party in a month or so. Older Dom reckons he could drink the Youngers under the table… if you say so old man. You’re on.

Child of Eden – Hands On

Child of Eden is a rhythm action game created by Tetsuya Mizuguchi, best known for Rez and was one of the first to be designed specially for the Xbox 360′s Kinect.

As the Guardian put it:

“Have you ever taken a Spirograph to a rave? No? Then hold tight to your coloured Biros and pack your glosticks, because that’s very much what on-rails shape-shooter Child of Eden is like – and it’s a blissful, beautiful thing to play.”
